Shopping in Oslo

Those seeking shopping experiences can find plenty of shopping centres, department stores and markets in Oslo. The city is the best place in the country for Norwegian souvenirs, such as knitwear, wooden and ceramic trolls and cheese slicers. Prices are generally higher in Oslo than other European capitals, but you can find many good offers and sales. Be aware that most shops close after 18:00 and almost all shops are closed on Sundays.

Shopping areas

The most popular shopping areas in Oslo are as follow:

Bogstadveien, Hegdehaugsveien and Majorstua are the most well-known shopping districts in Oslo. From Majorstuen all the way to the city centre, you will find high-street stores, unique boutiques and famous chain stores such as H&M, Monsoon, BIK BOK, Helly Hansen and the like.

Aker brygge is located near the City Hall. By the harbourside you can find top-end designer shops, speciality boutiques, cafés, restaurants, theatres, cinemas and bars.

Karl Johans gate is the most famous street in Oslo. Here you can find shops of all kinds and plenty of restaurants and cafés.

Grünerløkka is very popular among the young and is home to some of Oslo’s best outdoor markets, designer boutiques, parks, cafés and bars. This part of town is certainly worth a visit.

Oslo City Centre also has a wide choice of shopping streets. The two main multiple-level shopping centres are Oslo City and Byporten, which are both located near the Central Train Station. They are packed with specialty shops and restaurants.
