Things to do in Vesterbro, Copenhagen

The Vesterbro neighbourhood stretches from major downtown attractions such as Tivoli Gardens, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum and the Tycho Brahe Planetarium to the designer district of the converted Carlsberg Breweries.

The heart of the neighbourhood includes Kødbyen, the city’s former meatpacking district, which is now home to restaurants, bars and late-night clubbing.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is a museum dedicated to the private collection of the founders of the Carlsberg Breweries and covers the art of antiquity as well as modern art until the 20th century.

Founded in 1897, the museum is particularly renowned for its collections of sculptures. Step inside and discover a magnificent building with a show-stopping centrepiece palm garden.

Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is a playground for all ages and a spot of wonder that inspires the world. Whether you visit for the flower gardens, live music, or giddying amusements, you’ll no doubt have a blast. Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843 and has become both a national treasure and an international attraction.

Fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen visited the gardens on many occasions, as did Walt Disney, who even found inspiration here for his own Disney World. When the gardens were founded, the location was outside the city’s old ramparts, although today it enjoys a location next to the Central Station.

Tycho Brahe Planetarium

At the end of Copenhagen’s four major lakes you find a striking modern building offering a ticket into space. A visit to Copenhagen’s Tycho Brahe Planetarium will put a star-gazing twinkle in the eye of the whole family.

Designed by Knud Munk and inaugurated in 1989, the Planetarium is named after the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, and aims to educate as well as entertain through exhibitions on space travel and 3D and IMAX films.
