"Frognerbadet" is a very popular open-air swimming pool complete with a diving tower, water slides and children’s wading pools. The bath is open for all ages and is located right next to the Vigeland Sculpture Park.

Oslo’s most popular toboggan run is called Korktrekkeren (The Corkscrew), which runs from the neighbourhood of Frognerseteren to Midtstuen. Not only can you enjoy hikes and nature walks but also some exciting fun! The 2,000-metre run takes about 10 minutes complete by sled.

To repeat the fun, you can take the subway from Midtstuen up to Frognerseteren again in 16 minutes. The toboggan run is free to use. You can bring your own sled or rent one on site. Korktrekkeren is only open when there is enough snow on the ground. Check korken.no for updated information.

Inaugurated in 2008, Oslo Opera House is one of the city’s leading landmarks. Designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, the spectacular building is home to The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet.

The Royal Palace is situated on a hilltop – Bellevue – at the far end of Oslo’s main shopping thoroughfare, Karl Johans gate. In September 2012, Astrup Fearnley Museum relocated to a new home at Tjuvholmen designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano.

The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design holds, preserves and exhibits Norway’s most extensive national collections of art, architecture and design.

The museum's exhibition venues in Oslo are the National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum of Architecture, and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design – all of which are located within a short walking distance from our hotel in Oslo city centre, First Hotel Millennium.

Thor Heyerdal gained worldwide fame when he crossed the Pacific Ocean on Kon-Tiki in 1947, a raft made out of balsa logs. By completing this mission he demonstrated that early man had mastered sailing before even the saddle and wheel were invented.

Visit the Kon-Tiki museum  on the island of Bygdøy in the Oslo Fjord and see Heyerdal’s famous rafts. You can also head into the caves of the Bygdøy Island and experience an underwater expedition.

The Munch Museum is an art museum dedicated to the life and work of the famous Norwegian artist Edvard Much . Enjoy some of the world-famous paintings by Edvard Munch such as "Madonna" and "The scream" in addition to 12,000 other paintings, 18,000 prints, 6 sculptures, and various other items.

Those seeking shopping experiences can find plenty of shopping centres, department stores and markets in Oslo. The city is the best place in the country for Norwegian souvenirs, such as knitwear, wooden and ceramic trolls and cheese slicers. Prices are generally higher in Oslo than other European capitals, but you can find many good offers and sales. Be aware that most shops close after 18:00 and almost all shops are closed on Sundays.

Holmenkollen is the gateway to Nordmarka, one of the city’s most popular hiking areas. It takes around 20-30 minutes to reach the area by subway from downtown Oslo. Here you will find the Holmenkollen ski jumping hill, Norway’s most-visited tourist attraction and one of its most modern ski jumps. The observation deck at the top of the ski jump offers panoramic vistas of Oslo.

On the Holmenkollen mountaintop you find the neighbourhood of Frognerseteren with sweeping views of the city and the Oslo Fjord. It’s the perfect place to soak in the vistas, relax by the cracking fireplace, and enjoy a good meal. Or you can start your ski trip here, and wander for miles on skis across the open nature that surrounds Oslo.
