Things To Do in Norrköping

Norrköping is a beautiful city with plenty of history and culture. Known as Little Manchester during the 1900s, the city is one of few in Europe, which can show off such a well-preserved industrial landscape.

The best way to experience Norrköping is on foot: take a long walk and enjoy all the historic sights and local food. Norrköping has plenty of things to do and see, regardless of the season you're visiting.

    Knäppingsborg Quarter

    Knäppingsborg Norrköping

    Knäppingsborg Quarter is a historic neighbourhood in the centre, where the oldest buildings are from 1764. Often referred to as the heart of Norrköping, the quarter has a long history of flour and snuff manufacturing and is filled with charming streets. Find fantastic restaurants and cosy cafés in this idyllic district – some even have outdoor seating for those long, warm summer nights.

    The Industrial Landscape

    The Industrial Landscap Norrköping

    You won’t be able to miss out on Norrköping’s industrial heritage in The Industrial Landscape, the so-called old industrial quarter. Magnificent buildings, such as spinning mills and cotton factories, and (artificial) waterfalls characterise the area, despite not being in use for more than 30 years! These days, restaurants, museums, cafés and shops are nestled in the old houses.  

    Himmelstalund Rock Carvings

    Himmelstalund Norrköping

    Find one of Sweden’s largest collections of rock carvings (more than 1660!) dating back to the transition between the Late Neolithic and the Early Bronze Age at Himmelstalund. The carvings depict a great variety of motives, with a majority of ships represented. The park is located just outside the city. 

    The Cactus Garden Display

    Cactus Norrköping

    In Karl Johan’s park, you’ll see more than 25,000 cactus plants beautifully arranged in a large display. Since 1900, the municipality arranges a new design each year in June that pays tribute to one of the landmarks in the city.  

    The park is located only a few minutes’ walk from the train station at Drottninggatan/Slottsgatan.

    Kolmåren Wildlife Park

    Kolmåren Wildlife Park is Scandinavia’s largest zoo, located on the beautiful countryside just 30 minutes outside of Norrköping. More than 600 animals and 60 species walk around in the park. Moreover, the park includes thrilling rides, such as a wooden roller coaster and the safari gondola, which lets you experience the animals close – something that’s not possible in other wildlife parks! The zoo also includes the world’s first cable car.
